Second medical opinion
A second opinion is reasonable before any serious procedure, or in case of certainty – except in the event of emergencies. Even the need for information regarding the advantages and disadvantages of an operation can be a good reason to arrange for a second opinion.

A second medical opinion is the additional medical assessment of the initial diagnosis provided by a second doctor before a scheduled operation or medical treatment. Depending on the surgical field, in up to 50% of the cases, the doctor providing the second opinion will advise another therapy other than the operation. You, however, are always free to decide how you subsequently would like to proceed. Any possible treatment would not be carried out by the doctor providing the second opinion. This way, a neutral assessment is guaranteed.
CONCORDIA pays for the second opinion
For persons insured with PREMIUM, CARE or GENERAL Hospital Insurance, CONCORDIA incurs the costs of a second medical opinion before an operation. This includes a file review by the second doctor of the findings of the first doctor (without deductible or retention fee). If new or additional exams, for example x-rays or laboratory work, are needed, they are invoiced by the second doctor (with deductible and retention fee). To request a second medical opinion, there are two ways open to you:

You can request a second medical opinion at meinezweitmeinung.li without consulting with CONCORDIA. Within ten days, you will be personally served with a second opinion from designated Swiss experts. meinezweitmeinung.ch enables second opinions in these medical fields:
- Vascular surgery
- Cardiothoracic surgery
- Visceral surgery
2. By telephone with the health insurance doctor service at CONCORDIA
If a second opinion is indicated, your questions will be answered and cleared up in a personal discussion. The further course of action is determined together.
